T and the supportive team at The Nook

Recognising those with Big Hearts - The Nook (East Anglia Children's Hospices)

Submitted by fosteringtogether on 2 October 2024

Fostering Together launched a new initiative this year, seeking to say our collective 'thank you's to those wider teams around the children we have the privilege to support that have amazing impacts on their lives, be it through the health & medical inputs, therapeutic support and more.

Neil, Matt and Maria this time took a trip to the amazing Children's Hospice, The Nook (part of East Anglia Childrens' Hospices) following a glowing nomination by foster carers Laura & Alex, who wanted to thank the team for all the support they have provided to their family during different health scares and changing diagnoses for the children in their care.

Matt, Laura, Alex, Maria and Neil had a great time meeting the Hospice team and managers!

They are a vital resource for so many families in East Anglia so the team were delighted to be able to say thanks in person.

Laura & Alex said:

"The team are able to see beyond the disabilities and complex health needs of T, and have worked with us to hep him to feel safe, comfortable and when he is able to, to enjoy activities that are in areas of interest to him. As a result T now feels confident and comfortable in an environment and with a team of people who, just a few weeks ago, were still in the very early stages of getting to know him, and visa versa. T has continued to have regular sessions with the play therapist during his stay - again totally tailored sessions to meet his needs and interests.

It barely feels enough to say ‘thank you’, but hopefully this is a small acknowledgement of the hard work everyone puts in"

The Big Heart for Children with Disabilities Award was a new initiative introduced by Fostering Together to celebrate amazing and under-appreciated people in the wider reaches of teams working with children and thank them for amazing impact they have for children who have disabilities, both those in foster care and not.
