Laura is one of our foster carers. She previously worked as a special needs teacher working with children who had profound and multiple learning difficulties, including complex communication needs. Laura has 15 years’ experience working with AAC users and is passionate about working alongside wider professional teams, to develop a communication system for non-verbal children. Laura has vast experience working with various communication methods including Makaton, switches, objects of reference, Proloquo2go, eye gaze technology, symbols and symbol books, on-body signing and intensive interaction. Laura understands the importance of all children having access to an AAC system, which has methods embedded in the total communication approach. Laura provides support and training on AAC to other foster carers and our staff team.
